Ten Creative Dance Company members, two parents and myself attended the daCi USA conference this summer.  We participated in multi-generational dance making classes, technique and world dance classes, attended worshops and performances and experienced meeting teachers and young dancers from across the United States.  Our company dancers also performed, for the first time at a daCi conference, in the Wednesday evening student dance concert.  They beautifully performed "Rainbow Design" choreographed by Carlos R. Jones, Dance Faculty at Buffalo State College Theatre and Dance Department.  Mr. Jones was one of our 2010-2011 Creative Dance Company guest artists.

"Pleien" pronounced 'play in' is an old Dutch/Middle English word that means 'leap for joy, dance, rejoice, be glad'.  It's possibly how the word "play" originated.  Our dancers are often 'playing' around when improvising and creating new movement for original choreographic works; we have fun and celebrate the joy of dance!

Pleien Dance Company is a performing group of young people who share a love of dance and a desire to bring the art of modern dance to the community. We have modeled our company after several other children & youth dance companies throughout the United States and abroad. 

The goals of Pleien Dance Company are to:

* Share a love of dance with the community.

* Increase people’s awareness of and appreciation for creative and modern dance.

* Dance amongst a group of friends who respect and admire each other’s unique ways of moving.

Creative Dance for Children Classes and Pleine Dance Company (formerly known as: Creative Dance Company) in the news:

1.  Theory & Practice: "Play Ball", an article by Hanna Maria Hayes in the May issue of Dance Teacher magazine, focuses on enhancing creativity and coordination with props.  The article features information from Beverly Spell and two other dance educators (Deborah Lipa-Ciotta and Sanja Korman) regarding the importance of incorporating props in a creative movement dance class.    The article also includes several suggested exercises using props.  The article can be found here.  www.dance-teacher.com/content/theory-practice-play-ball.
